ਭੂਟਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਨਵਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਨ 'ਤੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ ਹੈ। 'ਟਾਕਿਨ' ਭੂਟਾਨ ਦਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਜਾਨਵਰ ਹੈ। ੲਿਹ ਜਾਨਵਰ ਕੇਵਲ ਭੂਟਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਪਾੲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ੲਿਸਨੂੰ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਜਾਨਵਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਪਿੱਛੇ ੲਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਲੱਖਣਤਾ, ਭੂਟਾਨ ਦਾ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ੲਿਤਿਹਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਥ ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਹੈ। ਭੂਟਾਨ ਦੀ ਲੋਕਧਾਰਾ ਵਿੱਚ ੲਿਹ ਮਿਥ ਪ੍ਰਚਲਿਤ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਭੂਟਾਨ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਨਾਮੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ 'ਡਰੂਕਪਾ ਕੁੲਿਨਲੇ' (ਡਿਵਾੲੀਨ ਮੈਡ ਮੈਨ) ਸੀ, ਨੇ ੲਿੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਹਿਣ 'ਤੇ ੲਿੱਕ ਚਮਤਕਾਰ ਦਿਖਾੲਿਆ। ਓਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੇ ੲਿੱਕ ਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ੲਿੱਕ ਬੱਕਰੀ ਮੰਗਵਾੲੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੱਕਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਗਊ ਦੇ ਧਡ਼ 'ਤੇ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ੲਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ੲਿੱਕ ਨਵਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ੲਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ 'ਤਾਕਿਨ' ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਅੱਜ ਤੱਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ੲਿਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕੇ ਕਿ ੲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨਵਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਸ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ।
