ਪੰਜਾਬ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਮੁੱਖ ਡੈਫ਼ੀਨਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ, 1947 ਡੈਫ਼ੀਨਿਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ 1846–1849 ਡੈਫ਼ੀਨਿਸ਼ਨ। ਇੱਕ ਤੀਜੀ ਡੈਫ਼ੀਨਿਸ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋਵੇਂ 1947 ਡੈਫ਼ੀਨਿਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ 1846–1849 ਡੈਫ਼ੀਨਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ, ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਅਤੇ ਕਦੀਮ ਦਰਿਆਵੀ ਹਿਲਜੁਲ ਦੇ ਲਿਹਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ਼ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਰਾਜਿਸਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
