ਮੈਟਰੋਪੋਲੀਟਨ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਆਫ਼ ਆਰਟ
ਨਿਊਯਾਰਕ ਦਾ ਮੈਟਰੋਪੋਲੀਟਨ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਆਫ਼ ਆਰਟ, ਆਮ ਨਾਂ "ਦ ਮੇਟ" (the Met) ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਜ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਲਾ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਹੈ। ਸਾਲ 2016 ਵਿੱਚ 7.06 ਮਿਲੀਅਨ ਸੈਲਾਨੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ, ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਤੀਜਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਲਾ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਪੰਜਵਾਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਜਾਇਬਘਰ ਹੈ।[5] ਇਸਦੀ ਸਥਾਈ ਕਲੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ 20 ਲੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਕਿਰਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ,[6] ਜੋ ਸਤਾਰਾਂ ਕਿਊਰੇਟੋਰੀਅਲ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੰਡਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮੈਨਹੈਟਨ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਮੀਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੈਂਟਰਲ ਪਾਰਕ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਇਮਾਰਤ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਆਰਟ ਗੈਲਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ। ਉੱਤਰੀ ਮੈਨਹੈਟਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਮੱਧ ਯੁੱਗ ਦੀ ਕਲਾ, ਆਰਕੀਟੈਕਚਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾਕਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ। 18 ਮਾਰਚ 2016 ਨੂੰ ਮਿਊਜ਼ਿਅਮ ਨੇ ਮੈਟਰਿਸਨ ਐਵਨਿਊ ਦੇ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਟ ਬਰੇਅਰ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਿਆ; ਇਹ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਦੇ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਕਾਲੀ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ 25 ਡਾਲਰ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਵੇ।
ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਸੋਧੋ
1866 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਰਿਸ, ਫ਼ਰਾਂਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਮਰੀਕੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਮੂਹ ਨੇ ਤੈਅ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ "ਕਲਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੈਲਰੀ" ਬਣਾਈ ਜਾਵੇ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣਾ ਸੀ।
ਮੈਟਰੋਪੋਲੀਟਨ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ਆਫ਼ ਆਰਟ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ 1870 ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਥਾਪਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵਪਾਰੀ, ਫਾਈਨੈਂਸੀਅਰ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਕ ਸਨ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ 20 ਫ਼ਰਵਰੀ 1872 ਨੂੰ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹਿਆ।
