ਸਿੰਹਾਲਾ ਲੋਕ
ਸਿੰਹਾਲੀ ਲੋਕ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਲੰਕਾ ਦੀ ਮੂਲ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਲੰਕਾ ਦੀ ਆਬਾਦੀ ਦਾ ਲਗਭਗ 75% ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹਨ[12]। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਿੰਹਾਲੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ,ਇੰਡੋ-ਆਰੀਅਨ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਹੈ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਥੇਰਵਾਦ ਬੁੱਧ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਇਸਾਈ ਵੀ ਹਨ। ਸਿੰਹਾਲੀ ਲੋਕ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਲੰਕਾ ਦੇ ਮੱਧ, ਮੱਧ ਦੱਖਣ, ਮੱਧ ਉੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਹਾਵਾਮਸਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਿੰਹਾਲੀ ਲੋਕ ਜਲਾਵਤਨੀ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਵਿਜੈ ਦੀ ਸੰਤਾਨ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੀ 543 ਈਪੂ. ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਲੰਕਾ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ। ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਜੈਨੇਟਿਕ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਿੰਹਾਲੀ ਬੰਗਾਲੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿਲਦੇ-ਜੁਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
