ਗੁੰਟਰ ਗਰਾਸ (ਜਰਮਨ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ:Günter Grass,16 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 1927 - 13 ਅਪਰੈਲ 2015) ਇੱਕ ਜਰਮਨ ਨਾਵਲਕਾਰ, ਕਵੀ, ਨਾਟਕਕਾਰ, ਚਿਤਰਕਾਰ, ਗ੍ਰਾਫਿਕ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ, ਬੁੱਤਸਾਜ਼ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ 1999 ਦਾ ਨੋਬਲ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਹਾਸਿਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸਨੂੰ ਜਰਮਨੀ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਜੀਵਤ ਲੇਖਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੈ।[1][2][3][4] ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਨਾਵਲ, ਦ ਟਿਨ ਡਰਮ, 1959 ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਉੱਤੇ ਬਣੀ ਫਿਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਕਰ ਇਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਗੁੰਟਰ ਗਰਾਸ 16 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 1927 ਨੂੰ - ਪਿਤਾ ਵਿਲਹੇਮ ਗਰਾਸ (1899-1979), ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਟੈਸਟੈਂਟ ਜਰਮਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਹੇਲੇਨ (Knoff) ਗਰਾਸ (1898-1954), ਕਸ਼ੂਬਿਯਾਈ ਪੋਲਸ਼ ਮੂਲ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਰੋਮਨ ਕੈਥੋਲਿਕ - ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ।[5][6] ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਤਾ-ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਗਦਾਂਸਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਪਨਿਵੇਸ਼ੀ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਸੀ। ਗਾਹਕ ਗਰੀਬ ਸਨ, ਅਕਸਰ ਖਾਤੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਿਖਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ, ਮਕਾਨ ਛੋਟਾ ਸੀ, ਆਸਪਾਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਕੈਥੋਲਿਕ ਸੀ। ਗਰਾਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨੀ ਲਿਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਿਸ਼ਾਏਲ ਯੁਰਗਸ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਵਿਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਿਟਲਰ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਿਆ ਬਚਪਨ। ਗਰਾਸ ਨੇ 17 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਤੱਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜੰਗ ਦਾ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਵੇਖਿਆ,1944 ਵਿੱਚ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਰੋਧੀ ਟੈਂਕ ਦਸਤੇ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਨਾਮ ਨਾਜੀ ਸੰਗਠਨ ਐਸ ਐਸ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਵਜੋਂ। ਲੇਕਿਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਅਤੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦਹਾਕਿਆਂ-ਬੱਧੀ ਛੁਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਜਦੋਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਹੰਗਾਮਾ ਮੱਚ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਲੜਾਈ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਕੱਟਣੇ ਸਨ।[7]
