ਸਟੀਵਨ ਚੂ[1] (ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜ਼ੀ: Steven Chu; ਜਨਮ 28 ਫਰਵਰੀ, 1948)[2] ਇੱਕ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਬਰਕਲੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੋਜ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਜ਼ਰ ਲਾਈਟ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਣੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੰਡਾ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਫਸਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਵਿਚ ਬੈੱਲ ਲੈਬਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਸਟੈਨਫੋਰਡ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੋਜ ਲਈ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਉਸਨੇ 1997 ਵਿਚ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਚ ਨੋਬਲ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਕਲਾਉਡ ਕੋਹੇਨ-ਤਨੌਦਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਲੀਅਮ ਡੈਨੀਅਲ ਫਿਲਿਪਸ ਨਾਲ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ।[3]

ਚੂ ਨੇ 2009 ਤੋਂ 2013 ਤੱਕ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਊਰਜਾ ਦੇ 12 ਵੇਂ ਸੈਕਟਰੀ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ। ਊਰਜਾ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿਯੁਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ, ਚੁ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਬਰਕਲੇ ਦੇ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਣੂ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਲੂਲਰ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਰੈਂਸ ਬਰਕਲੇ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਲੈਬਾਰਟਰੀ ਦੇ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਸਨ, ਜਿਥੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ[4][5][6][7] ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਇਕੋ ਅਣੂ ਦੇ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ-ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਸੀ।[8] ਚੂ ਨੇ 22 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ, 2013 ਨੂੰ ਊਰਜਾ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਦੇ ਅਹੁਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਅਸਤੀਫਾ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ।[9][10][11][12][13] ਉਹ ਸਟੈਨਫੋਰਡ ਵਿਚ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਅਣੂ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਲੂਲਰ ਫਿਜ਼ੀਓਲੋਜੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਪਰਤ ਆਇਆ।

ਚੂ ਨਵਿਆਉਣਯੋਗ ਊਰਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਣੂ ਊਰਜਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਖੋਜ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਜ਼ੋਰਦਾਰ ਵਕੀਲ ਹੈ, ਦਲੀਲ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਇੰਧਨ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਇਕ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ[14][15][16] ਉਸਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਗਲੋਬਲ "ਗਲੂਕੋਜ਼ ਆਰਥਿਕਤਾ" ਦੀ ਕਲਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਇੱਕ ਘੱਟ-ਕਾਰਬਨ ਆਰਥਿਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਰਮ ਖੰਡੀ ਪੌਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਗਲੂਕੋਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਸ ਪਾਸ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਤੇਲ ਹੈ।[17] 22 ਫਰਵਰੀ, 2019 ਨੂੰ ਚੂ ਨੇ ਅਮੈਰੀਕਨ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਫਾਰ ਐਡਵਾਂਸਮੈਂਟ ਆਫ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਮਿਆਦ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ।[18]
