ਸ਼ਬਦ ਐਨੋ ਡੋਮਿਨੀ (ਏ.ਡੀ.) ਅਤੇ ਮਸੀਹ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ (ਬੀ. ਸੀ.)[note 1] ਜੂਲੀਅਨ ਅਤੇ ਗ੍ਰੇਗੋਰੀਅਨ ਕੈਲੰਡਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਣ ਜਾਂ ਨੰਬਰ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਐਨੋ ਡੋਮਿਨੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮੱਧਕਾਲੀ ਲਾਤੀਨੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ 'ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਾਲ' ਵਿੱਚ,[1] ਪਰ ਅਕਸਰ "ਪ੍ਰਭੂ" ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ "ਸਾਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ" ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,[2][3] ਪੂਰੇ ਮੂਲ ਵਾਕੰਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ "ਐਨੋ ਡੋਮਿਨੀ ਨੌਸਟਰੀ ਜੇਸੂ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ", ਜਿਸਦਾ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ 'ਸਾਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਯਿਸੂ ਮਸੀਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਲ' ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਫਾਰਮ "BC" ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਲਈ ਖਾਸ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੇ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ: ਲਾਤੀਨੀ ਰੂਪ ਐਂਟੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਟਮ ਨੈਟਮ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
