'''ਨੈਨੀਤਾਲ '''[[ਭਾਰਤ]] ਦੇ [[ਉੱਤਰਾਖੰਡ]] ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸੈਰ ਸਪਾਟੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ। ਕੂਮਾਊ ਖੇਰਰ ਵਿਚ ਨੈਨੀਤਾਲ ਜਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਹੈ। ਨੈਨੀ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ 'ਅੱਖਾਂ' ਅਤੇ ਤਾਲ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ 'ਝੀਲ' ਹੈ। ਨੈਨੀਤਾਲ ਜਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਝੀਲਾਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ੲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ "ਲੇਕ ਅਾਫ਼ ਡਿਸਟ੍ਰਿਕ" ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਰਫ਼ ਨਾਲ ਢਕੀਆਂ ਪਹਾੜੀਆਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਵਸਿਆ ਇਹ ਥਾਂ ਝੀਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਘਿਰਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਝੀਲ ਨੈਨੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸ ਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਨੈਨੀਤਾਲ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ। ਨੈਨੀਤਾਲ ਦੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਨਜ਼ਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਰਮਾਰ ਹੈ।<ref name=gazeteerquote>[http://dsal.uchicago.edu/reference/gazetteer/pager.html?objectid=DS405.1.I34_V18_328.gif Nainital District], ''[[The Imperial Gazetteer of India]]'', volume 18, pp. 322–323. 1908</ref>
