ਗਲੋਰੀਆ ਜੋਸਫ਼

ਗਲੋਰੀਆ ਇਡਾ ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਡੈਨੀਅਲ ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਅਤੇ ਈਡਾ ਡੇਵਿਡ ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਸੇਂਟ ਕ੍ਰੋਇਕਸ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਊਯਾਰਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਰਿਸ਼ ਹੋਈ।[3][4] ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਸਕਟਬਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤਰੀ ਹਾਕੀ ਵੀ ਖੇਡਦੀ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਦਾਰਸ਼ਨਿਕ ਕੈਸਪਰ ਹੋਲਸਟਾਈਨ ਦੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਭਤੀਜੀ ਸੀ।[5]

ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਨੇ ਨਿਊਯਾਰਕ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਹਤ, ਸਰੀਰਕ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਬੈਚਲਰ ਆਫ਼ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦੀ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਹਾਸਿਲ ਕੀਤੀ।[6] ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੇ ਸਿਟੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਆਫ ਨਿਊਯਾਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨੋਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਦੀ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਨਿਊਯਾਰਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮਾਰਗਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਨੇ 1967 ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਰਨੇਲ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਮਨੋਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾਕਟਰੇਟ ਦੀ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ।[7][8]

ਕਰੀਅਰ ਸੋਧੋ

ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਨੇ ਹੈਂਪਸ਼ਾਇਰ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਕੂਲ ਆਫ਼ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਸਾਇੰਸਿਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਸਨੇ 1969 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਬਲੈਕ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ਼ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਸਹਿ-ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ।[9][10] ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਨੇ ਸੀ.ਓ.ਐਸ.ਈ.ਪੀ. ਲਈ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜੋ ਇੱਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਲੈਟਿਨੋ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ।[11] ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਉੱਤਮ ਲੇਖਿਕਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਰੀਵਾਦ, ਨਸਲ, ਲਿੰਗਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਗਰਮੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਲਿਖਦੀ ਸੀ।[12] ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਨੇ ਦੱਖਣੀ ਅਫ਼ਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਸਟਰਹੁੱਡ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜੋ ਸੋਵੇਟੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਵਕਾਲਤੀ ਸਮੂਹ ਹੈ।[13]

1980 ਦੇ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈਂਪਸ਼ਾਇਰ ਕਾਲਜ ਤੋਂ ਰਿਟਾਇਰਮੈਂਟ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਔਡਰੇ ਲੋਰਡੇ[14] ਨਾਲ ਸੇਂਟ ਕ੍ਰੌਇਕਸ ਵਾਪਸ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੋ ਦਹਾਕਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਐਮਰੀਟਸ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੱਖ -ਵੱਖ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੇਣਾ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ।[15][16] ਉੱਥੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ, ਇਸ ਜੋੜੇ ਨੇ 1981 ਵਿੱਚ ਚੇ ਲੂਮੁੰਬਾ ਸਕੂਲ ਫਾਰ ਟਰੂਥ ਅਤੇ ਸੇਂਟ ਕ੍ਰੌਇਕਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੱਠਜੋੜ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜੋ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਲਿੰਗ-ਅਧਾਰਤ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਕਰਨ 'ਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰਤ ਸੀ।[17][18] ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਨੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਦ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਲਈ ਡਾਕ ਲੌਕ ਐਪੀਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੀ।[19]

ਲੋਰਡੇ ਦੀ 1992 'ਚ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਨੇ ਦ ਵਿੰਡ ਇਜ਼ ਸਪਿਰਟ: ਦ ਲਾਈਫ, ਲਵ ਐਂਡ ਲੈਗਸੀ ਆਫ ਔਡਰੇ ਲੋਰਡੇ (2016) ਕਿਤਾਬ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ[20], ਜੋ ਲੋਰਡੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਰਡੇ ਨੇ ਲੋਰਡੇ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਸਤਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।[21] ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਨੇ ਕਿੱਕਸਟਾਰਟਰ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਲਿਖਤ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਫੰਡ ਦੇਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲਈ ਕੀਤੀ।[22] ਇਸ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ-ਜੀਵਨੀ ਨੂੰ 2017 ਦਾ ਲੈਂਬਡਾ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਫਾਰ ਵੁਮਨ ਇਨ ਮਨੋਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ 2017 ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਨ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ।[23][24]

ਨਿੱਜੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਸੋਧੋ

ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਲੈਸਬੀਅਨ ਸੀ।[25] ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਕਾਲੇ ਨਾਰੀਵਾਦੀ ਲੇਖਕ ਔਡਰੇ ਲਾਰਡੇ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਸੀ।[26] ਉਹ 1981 ਤੋਂ ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਦੇ ਜੱਦੀ ਟਾਪੂ ਸੇਂਟ ਕ੍ਰੋਇਕਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੇ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ 1992 ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਂਸਰ ਨਾਲ ਲੌਰਡੇ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ।[27][28] ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਦਾ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਫ਼ਰੋ-ਜਰਮਨ ਕਾਰਕੁਨ ਹੇਲਗਾ ਏਮਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦਾ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਜੋ ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੱਕ 20 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੱਕ ਚੱਲਿਆ।[29]

ਜੋਸਫ਼ ਦੀ 16 ਅਗਸਤ, 2019 ਨੂੰ ਸੇਂਟ ਕ੍ਰੋਇਕਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਘਰ 91 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ।[30]
