ਪਰਮੀਸ਼ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਜ਼ਿਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਭੁਖ ਤੇ ਦੂਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਵਰਮਾ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ 'ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਇੱਕ ਕਿਸ਼ੋਰ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਸੀ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਔਖੀਆਂ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਿਕ ਮਾਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ। [4]

ਵਰਮਾ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਵਰਮਾ, ਇੱਕ ਥੀਏਟਰ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਖਕ, [9] ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਵਰਮਾ, ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
