ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਰਾਜ (ਜਾਂ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਰਾਜ[6]) ਭਾਰਤੀ ਉਪ ਮਹਾਂਦੀਪ 'ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਈਸਟ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਪਲਾਸੀ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ 1757 ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਬੰਗਾਲ ਦੇ ਨਵਾਬ ਸਿਰਾਜ-ਉਦ-ਦੌਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੀਰ ਜਾਫ਼ਰ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਈਸਟ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਦਾ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਸੀ, ਨੇ ਬਦਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ;[7] ਜਾਂ 1765 ਵਿੱਚ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਗਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਹਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੀਵਾਨੀ, ਜਾਂ ਮਾਲੀਆ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ;[8] ਜਾਂ 1773 ਵਿੱਚ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਨੇ ਬੰਗਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ (ਨਿਜ਼ਾਮਤ) ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਕੱਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਆਪਣਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਗਵਰਨਰ-ਜਨਰਲ, ਵਾਰਨ ਹੇਸਟਿੰਗਜ਼ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ, ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।[9] ਕੰਪਨੀ ਨੇ 1858 ਤੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਦੋਂ, 1857 ਦੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਵਿਦਰੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਐਕਟ 1858 ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਦਫਤਰ ਨੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਿਆ।
